Cluster 1 · Clean energy pathways for developmentEnergy Systems Modelling Fellow
For a candidate with a strong foundation in energy systems engineering and modelling, who can critically engage with how analytical tools are used in practice. The Fellow will contribute to understanding and improving how energy modelling and planning approaches reflect African economic realities, development priorities, and decision-making processes — going beyond the application of existing tools to question underlying assumptions, adapt approaches to context, and contribute to analytical frameworks that are relevant, usable, and aligned with real-world planning needs.
Cluster 2 · Effective implementation approachesImplementation Systems Fellow
The Fellow will help advance AISESA's understanding of how energy solutions move from plans and pilots to sustained implementation and scale. This includes developing and applying approaches to analyse implementation pathways, generating evidence on enabling and constraining factors, and translating insights into practical tools for decision-makers. Works closely with AISESA's existing Effective Implementation Research Fellow.
Cluster 3 · Policies and governanceEnergy Governance & Policy Fellow
The Fellow will strengthen the interface between research, policy, and practice by generating evidence on governance systems, supporting more context-responsive policymaking, and advancing approaches that place African institutions, expertise, and development priorities at the centre of energy and climate decision-making. Work spans governance for energy transformations, science-policy interfaces, institutional capability, political economy and regulatory systems.
Cluster 4 · Access to affordable finance and technologiesEnergy Finance & Technology Fellow
The Fellow will contribute to research and engagement on how financial systems, investment decisions, technologies and enabling environments interact to shape energy outcomes in Africa. Particular attention is given to developing financially grounded, context-responsive approaches that align investment, technology, and development priorities — generating practical insights for governments, financiers, developers, and other stakeholders.
