An African-led institute working on energy as a lever for structural transformation, generating the analysis, capacity and partnerships needed to translate evidence into durable development outcomes across the continent.
AISESA believes that energy choices are inseparable from the wider questions of development. To act on this, AISESA is building a knowledge ecosystem that connects research, policy and practice through five interconnected research clusters, three thematic focus areas, and a growing community of postdoctoral and PhD fellows. Our work is designed to strengthen African capability and agency in defining what energy is for, whose expertise counts in shaping it, and which futures are considered possible.
Each year the network convenes in person at the Annual Congress — the moment where the continental agenda for energy futures is shaped collectively.
Capacity is not the ability to implement someone else’s agenda but the ability to set and pursue your own agenda. In that sense, it should be a critical element of any development narrative.
