Overview
Cluster 1 works on how energy modelling and planning can better serve Africa's development priorities. We examine which analytical tools are used, by whom, for which policy decisions, and why the uptake and influence of that evidence in African policy spaces remain limited.
Our aim is to move beyond building analytical capacity for its own sake and toward modelling that supports the continent's core development priorities: powering livelihoods, inclusive industrialisation and urban transformation. We produce journal articles, policy briefs and country case studies, and are currently building an Energy Modelling Observatory for Africa as an open policy and development platform. Everything is developed in co-creation with policymakers, local modelling teams, universities and practitioners so that the evidence is usable at the moment of decision.
