Overview
Cluster 3 works on the policy and governance processes that position energy as a lever for sustainable development while delivering climate commitments in ways that strengthen social equity, unlock economic opportunity and support environmental stewardship. We ground this work in the political, institutional and social realities of specific African contexts, including the governance challenges and institutional lock-ins that continue to constrain transformative change.
Central to the cluster is the conviction that African-led scholarship should sit at the centre of the research–policy interface, not at its margins. Our work therefore also builds space for a new generation of African scholars and practitioners to contribute meaningfully to the nexus of research, practice and policy, and, through that participation, to shape what just and equitable transitions come to mean in different places.
